Why is this important?

The Lynnhaven River watershed is one of the most densely populated areas in Virginia Beach – over half of the city’s population reside there.

A more dense population leads to challenges with managing stormwater. Stormwater is water that does not infiltrate into the ground; it flows across hard surfaces into streams, rivers, bays, and oceans. Pollutants, such as soil, lawn fertilizers, pesticides, trash, animal waste, road salts, chemicals, etc. have an easy path into our waterways during storms in more densely populated areas because less natural buffers exist to filter and soak up runoff.
