Plastic Bag Fee update

City Council voted 7-0 at their first meeting in July to defer the discussion of the way ahead on the plastic bag fee until September 6.

Council also requested that the City Manager present a report at that meeting on the issue of trash as a whole in the city with ways to address litter in a broader context.

In the meantime LRNow and its partners want to thank everyone who wrote letters, talked to their council persons and appeared in person to support the bag fee.

“Take a breather,” said Jim Deppe, LRNow’s Advocacy Coordinator, “but don’t forget!  Come August, we will begin to gear up for the September 6th City Council Meeting.”

On July 5th, Raptor expert Reese Lukei took this photo of an osprey nestling that he banded on the Lynnhaven River.
This Osprey nestling that he banded had the remains of what appeared to be a plastic bag wrapped around its feet.

This is a reminder that says in no uncertain terms why we do what we do!
