LRNow’s 2020 Fall Photography Contest

Do you have a passion for digital photography? From our beautiful ocean and bay beaches and the Lynnhaven River to Back Bay and the North Landing River, our waterways define our lives in Virginia Beach. Our city is home to many diverse ecosystems filled with beautiful and bountiful natural resources. Enter this year’s contest and help us capture Virginia Beach’s natural beauty to share with the world. Your photo could be the next cover of this year’s Annual Report which is distributed to thousands of individuals each year.



The contest is open to both amateur and professional photographers 18 and older.  Employees of Lynnhaven River NOW and their families are not eligible.

Entry Period:

We will accept entries until Friday, November 6th.  Winners will be announced the following week on by Friday November 13th via email, in our e-newsletters and on our media platforms.

What to Enter:

  • Photographers may submit up to 3 photographs for consideration. Submitted photographs must be the property of the entrant.
  • Winning photos will be chosen in four categories: Wildlife, Landscape, Recreation and, in lieu of our Celebration of Trees this Fall, the fourth category Celebrate Trees. All photographs must be taken in Virginia Beach.

How to Enter:

  • Photos must be submitted in an electronic format. To submit your photographs, e-mail with a completed entry form attached.
  • Photos may be in color or black and white
  • Digital photographs should be taken at the highest resolution possible 1200 x 1800 pixels minimum.
  • Digitally or otherwise enhanced or altered photos will not be accepted. Minor adjustments including sharpening, contrast and slight color adjustment are acceptable.
  • All entries must contain a completed entry form, including current contact information, caption details, and artist release.  Photos should be numbered to correspond with the caption details.


  • Official judging will be performed by a panel of Lynnhaven River NOW employees and select professional advisors.  Judges will make their selections based on subject matter, composition, focus, lighting, uniqueness, and impact.  All decisions are final and at the discretion of Lynnhaven River NOW.
  • Two winning photos will be chosen for each category.
  • We are not responsible for lost or misdirected entries.


We reserve the right to use all entries for LRNOW materials (print materials, presentations, promotions, and the Internet).
