Bookkeeper Position Employment Opportunity


Lynnhaven River NOW is the leading environmental non-profit organization in Virginia Beach and is dedicated to substantially improving water quality in all of our waterways and protecting our natural areas. To reach this goal, we are working

(1) to identify and reduce sources of pollution including nutrients, sediment, bacteria, toxins, and marine debris in our waterways;
(2) to educate and engage the community and partner organizations in restoring and
protecting our waterways and natural areas; and
(3) to restore lost habitats such as oyster reefs, salt marshes, native plants, forests, and riparian buffers that filter polluted runoff, improve water quality and protect marine life.

We concentrate our efforts on public education, resource restoration, and working with local governmental and other non-profit organizations to foster partnerships that bring additional resources to the challenge of reducing pollution and restoring vital natural habitat in Virginia Beach.

Bookkeeper responsibilities include:
This is a part time position.
Managing accounts receivables and producing invoices.
Receiving invoices, managing payments and producing checks.
Managing payroll and payroll taxes; submitting payroll to Intuit and submitting payroll taxes to state and federal government.
Managing the employee benefit program and tracking vacation days.
Preparing and distributing W-2s to employees.
Preparation and submittal of annual and quarterly reports to Virginia and the federal government.
Preparing all necessary information for preparation of the 990.
Completing the annual inventory in June each year.
Monthly reconciliation of all credit card accounts and our checking account.
Preparing deposit memo monthly for Network for Good payments.
Preparing deposit memo monthly for Square payments.
Preparing reports as requested for the Executive Director and the Board of Directors.
Other tasks as assigned by the Executive Director.


Necessary Skills Include:
Comfort with Quickbooks and good accounting practices.
Experience with other companies or organizations; non-profit experience is an asset.
Experience handling payroll, payroll taxes, and employee benefits.
Comfort in working with a professional team.
