Pearl Homes Coordinator Employment Opportunity

Lynnhaven River NOW is the leading environmental non-profit organization in Virginia
Beach and is dedicated to substantially improving water quality in all of our waterways
and protecting our natural areas. To reach this goal, we are working
(1) to identify and reduce sources of pollution including nutrients, sediment,
bacteria, toxins, and marine debris in our waterways;
(2) to educate and engage the community and partner organizations in restoring and
protecting our waterways and natural areas; and
(3) to restore lost habitats such as oyster reefs, salt marshes, native plants, forests,
and riparian buffers that filter polluted runoff, improve water quality and protect
marine life.

We concentrate our efforts on public education, resource restoration, and working with
local governmental and other non-profit organizations to foster partnerships that bring
additional resources to the challenge of reducing pollution and restoring vital natural
habitat in Virginia Beach.

Pearl Home Coordinator responsibilities include:

 Managing the Pearl Home application process including
o coordinating Pearl Home campaigns,
o data entry and reporting,
o mailing list management,
o maintaining supplies,
o notifications to new Pearl Homes and distribution of flags.

 Communication and outreach regarding the Pearl Home program including
o tables at various community events,
o speaking opportunities for community organizations,
o developing outreach and educational materials as needed,
o providing Pearl Home materials at LRNow events.
o providing Pearl Home information for our social media, website, and
o Coordinating various Pearl Home outreach events including but not limited to
the monthly cleanups, bird and plant walks, and workshops for homeowners.

 Volunteer Coordination within the Pearl Home program including
o recruiting and managing volunteers as needed for various Pearl Home
events and activities,
o working with the Pearl Home Captains in neighborhoods throughout the
o serving as the staff liaison to various LRNow and community committees
as needed.

 Attending and providing updates at the Program Partners meetings (4 per year).
Participating in monthly staff meetings.

 Assisting, as needed, with three annual events: Oyster Roast, Fall Festival and
Volunteer Appreciation Party.

 Working with our Communications Coordinator, Assistant Director, and Executive
Director on communications including social media, website updates, and flyers
and other publications.

 Assisting with various other tasks and assignments as they arise.

 This position reports to the Assistant Director.

Necessary Skills Include:
 An interest in and experience with environmental restoration and sustainability.
 Efficiency with all Microsoft Office programs.
 Good writing skills and comfort with producing printed materials as needed.
 Good communication skills.
 Good interpersonal skills and ability to work with a team including fellow staff
members and volunteers.
 Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage several tasks
 Schedule flexibility – position requires some weekend and evening hours with
comp time provided.
