Students can apply for a various Internships that offer experience working with a grassroots, environmental organization focused on local water quality issues. These volunteer positions provide valuable, real-world experiences that help to enhance college applications and resumes.

Summer 2010 Internships
LRN GIS Mapping Intern – A candidate should be a 3rd or 4th year college student with exemplary math and GIS skills, needed to update Lynnhaven River statistical and map data in coordination with the City of Virginia Beach. The duration of this unpaid position is 6-8 weeks at approximately 8-10 hours a day.
LRN Education Intern – Candidates should be interested in environmental education opportunities for adults and students. A basic understanding of watershed dynamics, good communication skills, solid organizational skills and MSOffice experience desired. Schedule must be flexible, needed in July through August at 10 hours per week.
LRN Water Quality Intern – A candidate with water testing experience or lab experience needed to collect and record water quality data and obtain and identify biotic samples. This unpaid internship requires a 4 hour shift every other week from the end of June through mid – August. Also, requires own transportation and a short training period.
LRN Social Media Intern – Candidate should be a 2nd through 4th year college student with marketing experience and a working knowledge of the Social Media outlets Twitter, Facebook, Flicker and YouTube. Candidate will provide updates about organizational events and river related current issues to LRNow’s friends and followers of these Social Media sites. This unpaid internship requires approximately 4 – 8 hours a week and requires a commitment to the internship of 8 weeks.
Lynnhaven River NOW is a small, nonprofit, grassroots environmental organization whose primary focus is improving water quality in the Lynnhaven River. Through a focus on public education and oyster restoration, LRN encourages environmentally-friendly practices with residents and businesses in the Lynnhaven watershed.
